[Electric Boats] Some Interesting Electric Boats

 

I thought I would share with you a couple of boats that have high ambitions!

First this weekend at the Dana Point Boat Show I visited the Hunter e36. This is a new boat with a serial hybrid 72v Elco propulsion system. The generator is an 8kw unit and the motor is rated at 40HP by the vendor.

The second boat is Panormos, a Gulfstar 39, home based in San Diego and currently sailing to Hawaii. Panormos had her old working Perkins 4-108 50HP motor removed and replaced by an electric motor, 440AH 48v batteries, and a 7KW generator.

As I talk to so many sailors who contemplate replacing their ICE systems with electric, I am more and more convinced that electric is appropriate for many sailors.
