[Electric Boats] Diesel tank and battery bank

Hey guys and gals,
I'm planning my electric drive installation and would like some input on rules around fuel tanks and batteries. I know ABYC and the CFR say some things with regards to battery and fuel tank proximity. It seems that a fuel tank should not be above or below a battery, and a filter, valve or metallic fuel line can't be run over a battery. It seems to be acceptable for a fuel tank and battery to be side by side to one another. If this last part is true, I'm curious about the groups thoughts/opinions on this matter. What concerns are there? Should they be segregated for safety? What are the risks of a battery "meltdown" getting the fuel tank involved? I plan on running a 600 AH bank of AGMs at 48V.

Thanks,
Chris
