[Electric Boats] Re: Newbie

Converting powerboats: if you spend $250,000 USD for each powerboat conversion, your fleet users will be happy. This assumes you are talking about 14' to 20' runabout style four- to six-seater powerboats.

Converting outboard sailboats:
cheapest - one 50 to 80 pound thrust electric trolling motor for each sailboat, plus batteries, chargers, and panel meters (amps, volts, or combination).
funnest - one Torqeedo for each sailboat, plus charging cord from 12v house bank. Torqeedos report speed, distance remaining, and power consumption.

Converting Ericson 35: there are several manufacturers with excellent inboard electric propulsion solutions (ElectricYacht, AdvancedMarineElectricPropulsion, PropulsionMarine, Thoosa, EMotion, and more). Check the "links" section of ElectricBoatsYahooGroups.

One sailing club in the San Francisco area converted only two of their boats, then found these two became the most sought-after of their members. There was a learning curve: mistakes in use and installation that soured some.

The biggest disappointment with electric conversions, is that they are not magic. Their fuel tanks (batteries) are comparatively very small, and take a long time to fill. Users invariably underestimate this constraint.

Just my perspective,
