[Electric Boats] Re: Electric Boat Free to Good Home

Hi Alex,

I'm sorry that you have to let your project go, it was obviously turning out well.

I read your files and was wondering if you ever had the chance to objectively measure your "watts to knots" performance. I saw the spreadsheet of your performance calculations along with you observations that "6 mph.... feels very fast on the water in a quiet setting." and "Cruising 4 mph.... is delightful."

I found that my boat's performance after conversion met my expectations by my "seat of the pants" measurements. But when I actually measured the amps drawn from the batteries at measured speeds (multiple 2 pass runs in opposite directions over a 400-500 yard course) I found that at low speeds, my watts to knots performance was significantly different than my predictions and that overall, the efficiency was better than I expected. This allowed me to completely change my speed/range predictions and I found that more of my local area is within range of my battery pack alone.

As we are able to collect more objective performance data on this list, we can set more realistic expectations for those who might be considering a simliar conversion.

Anyway, I hope that you get another chance to rejoin the elctric boat community.

Fair winds and smooth sailing....
