Thanks for the advice, Mike - that's exactly the kind of in-the-field
experience I was looking for! As I'd mentioned, MeanWell is a bit of a
PITA in that you have to send it back to them to adjust the charging
curve - I would be very happy if I could make the taper less steep and
the float current a bit higher. The engine is a bit more convenient,
since I don't have to hump gasoline to the boat, but using the Honda +
the MeanWell is quieter and a lot "smarter" charging, at least until I
get a decent external regulator. In any case, it seems that I have a
good bit of work to do on this system before it works well and smoothly.

I guess if it all worked well from the start, it wouldn't be a boat,
would it? :)
