the big problem seems to be the long storage in a salt water enviroment
looking at something more powerful than 1 1/2 hp
still question need for auxilary power???
tried out my 15 ft oars on land yesterday
very clumsey unless ther are two people rowing.
rowing, paddling is great up to 21 ft. boats

Hi
I have had several jobs for customers replacing outboards in the lazerette,
on keel yachts, with a saildrive.
The outboards have been unsatisfactory for various reasons.
Short life span, (short periods of use* and a constant salty environment are
murder on outboards) exhaust fumes, ventilation, plugging the hull and fuel
consumption etc.
* Ideal for electric. drives, of course.
There are several designs around for a home built electric saildrive. Glen L
etc.

" PLANNING ON MOUNTING ENGINE IN A MOTOR WELL IN THE LAZERETT HAS ANYONE
DONE THIS????"
I've known a few people with outboards in lazarette wells. I believe that
this was done on a number of designs by a variety of builders in that
period. It seems like a reasonable plan if your boat's underbody design is
compatible. That wouldn't work on my full keel Bermuda 30, but it should
work on any fin keel boat with a spade rudder.
