Re: [Electric Boats] Re: Ok solar experts...

Eric,
The last price I saw was around $240 per panel...   Comparing the Poly-Crystalline panel with the Amorphous panel the poly will always come out on top.  The kicker is shading, the poly-crystalline panel will die with anything but minimal shading, the Amorphous will take a pretty heavy shade and still produce and with reduced sun angle the Amorphous will still with the production battle...   all in all, I'm making the change to the Amorphous 48 volt panel..   putting them in series on my 3 boats gives me the amperages that I want, and I do a little work I can get them on a sun follow mount while at anchor..    Dave K

Hi Dave,
he
I don't know what they cost (no price listed on the site that you provided) but the output is only 60W for a full square meter (10.7 square feet or 5.6W per sq ft).  Not bad for thin film technology but the Sharp poly-crystalline 240W panels are only 1.6 sq meters (17.54 sq feet or 13.6W per sq ft), more than twice the output from the same area as the Kaneka panels.

But if one really needs the voltage, they might have to sacrifice the oveysrall wattage for the 48V panels.
