[Electric Boats] Re: thrust bearing

Pillow block bearings are not necessarily suitable for use as thrust bearings. It is totally outside their design envelope to use them as such. A thrust bearing is designed to resist axial movement whila allowing rotary motion of the shaft. A pillow block bearing is designed to resist lateral movement of a shaft, steadying  and stabilizing it, while allowing rotary motion. The two are not mutually exclusive, except that a bearing designed to perform both tasks will cost more than if it were optimized for one or the other.
