[Electric Boats] Electric Sidewheeler

Okay, so three years ago when we build Floating Empire (www.thefloatingempire.com if anyone's interested), it was a sternwheeler powered by a winch motor running 12V.  It met with, shall we say, limited success (though we still live aboard. . ..it seems everything worked but the drive).  Now we're anticipating building a new boat and I'm thinking of using brushed Ecycle hub motors to drive sidewheels.  Would love to have people's input.

Brushed BTW because they're easier to reverse.

Any suggestions?
