Most would be A/C motors, not easily used.
Some door openers use DC, motors, but probably max 1/2 Hp, so not much power unless you have a very small boat.
if you have treadmill motors, they are usually DC and can be used for a small boat.
I have seen links of people using these to make windmill's as well.

I've got a large load of Electric moters from washing machines electric garage door operators and so on that I was going to sell to the scrap yard. You can guess my next question - would any of these moters be suitable for building an inboard electric engine with?
