Re: [Electric Boats] Torqeedo Deep Blue 80 hp outboard

Todd,

Is that box all full of batteries? I would guess that the pack weighs about 700-800 lb. I bet that with half that pack and Deep Blue in my boat we could make it around Wye in less than an hour. Oh, I forgot you have water cooling for the batteries. It looks like your pack volume is about twice my bare stack of cells. I would probably have to re-enforce my floor, which I plan to do anyway. I have had 800 lb of battery and people in my boat, not at speed, but it sits on its lines pretty well.

> Mike, quick comment -- Torqeedo is currently targeting Deep Blue at high-use commercial operators with well-defined usage scenarios and well-characterized annual fuel and maintenance costs. In those cases operators can easily calculate the payback of the system, as it reduces their annual operating costs. Dive and fishing operations in sensitive areas, workboats and tenders in areas or applications where fuel is limited, expensive, and difficult to handle, stuff like that.

I have been thinking of about the system and can only see it in a very small specialized application or integrated into a serial hybrid application.
