[electricboats] 10 kwh pod motor DYI #wiki-notice

I am exploring the possibility of building my own electric pod motor for a sailboat. Boat is 5+ tons.
What are the motors used in pods? Brushless, with reduction gear?
Preferably 10KWh, compact 48vdc 130 / 160 amp max draw, and shaft RPM would be in the range of 1800. Regen would be nice, I assume that is dependant on the motor control.
