[Electric Boats] Re: 1997 Duffy rebuild

I own an original Duffy the 20'  Edison model dates back to the early 70s.   Duffy didn't build them back then but Schock boats did so the hulls are narrower and longer typically.  I'll post a pic of the boat.  Its been repowered using a Torqeedo 2.0 cruise and we are very happy with it now.  It far more efficient than with the old DC powered system and so uses only 4 x 6v 220ah batteries from Costco.  We can cruise all day on this setup and I've gone from my harbor to one up the coast which is a 6 mile trip one way and 6 back so I know the boat has range.   We are on the 4 season with the Costco batteries and use a monitor system to keep tabs on the batteries.  I use a marine charger 24v multistage and it seems to be taking good care of the batteries.  I use a seperate 24v system for onboard systems with a step down 24v/12v converter.  I chose this to act as a backup motor battery hence the 24v but we've never needed it.  Obviously without the through hull propshaft the boat is quite different than most duffy's.  We can trailer it a bit easier since its more like an outboard boat now but still has a good keel which the trailer was designed for.  Overall we could not be happier with our older duffy it been very reliable with the Torqeedo system.
