Sounds like a very cool project, and the basis for a very good vessel for my wife and I to retire on eventually, assuming we can afford to one day. But that is another topic altogether! The Great Loop is a trip i would love to do myself. Please keep us posted, I am very curious to see how well it works.

Solarhouseboat is a 34' Trojan Houseboat powered by a 24 volt DC motor. It has a 115 Johnson outboard for a rudder, and sometimes it is used to back up the boat. It is 115 volts inside for creature comforts. The boat has a large battery bank, and a 3500 watt pure sine wave inverter to run off the grid. Solarhouseboat is preparing the travel the Great Loop beginning in May 2013.
