Re: [Electric Boats] Re: brushed motors inside boat

My boat had a bilge blower vent system installed in the diesel days that is still there. I use propane for cooking and also have an on demand hot water heater on board. A switch in the galley turns a propane valve located in the propane locker on and off. I am also installing a propane alarm. My brushed LEMCO motor sits well above the bilge and so far I have not had any issues. Between the bilge blower and alarm things should be covered should a leak develop.

Hi Dan,
You are starting with a flawed premise.

Ignition-protected devices must be used within LPG/CNG compartments, but properly installed LPG/CNG systems may use non-protected devices in the accomodation spaces, and in areas that are adequately ventilated (15 sq. inches per cu/ft volume) to the exterior.

Refer to ABYC E-11 11.5.3 Ignition Protection.

How's that for a short discussion?
