Re: [Electric Boats] New member

Hi John,

Welcome to Electric Boats! I converted my Cheoy Lee Bermuda 30 ketch a few years ago, and have posted information about it more times than you want to read. You can do an advanced search in the Yahoo group for author contains "ewdysar" and you'll get almost 1000 hits. Add the keyword "comparison" or "measured" from the message body and you'll get a more reasonable list of posts.

You are correct, LiFePO4 prismatic cells are very stable and will not catch fire, even when shot through with a gun or stabbed with a screwdriver. I am running an 8kWh (160Ah-50V) pack of Thundersky cells in my boat. I really like these batteries for a number of reasons, consider yourself lucky to get a boat that already has this upgrade.

Fair winds,
Eric

I hope to go to something else in a couple of years, either lithium or nickel-metal hydride. I'm curious to find out the kw of your pack. Mine is 9kw, which I know is good for at least two hours. i hope to get some better numbers this summer. Good luck with it!
