[Electric Boats] Re: a dilemma

 



Al, Anne has a good point.
You already have a setup to get good range, and it should be reliable.
You are not forced to have it running and polluting!
Right now, as a non-sailor yet, I am fixing up an older sailboat, and
have finally decided to leave it as-is for now, and electrify the dinghy
tender I will be using to get out to the mooring.
Very low cost to do, easier access with no crawling under cockpits, and
I will get to test the electric idea, regarding running slow, heat
buildup etc.
In your case, you might want to look at an electric outboard as a
halfway step. If you dislike the outboard appearance, consider an
outboard well for the boat as a future project, then you can swap things
when you eventually fit the inboard electric drive, and keep an ICE
outboard as a backup.
