With the throttle wide open measure the voltage at the battery terminals and at the motor terminals.  The difference multiplied by the currrent is the amount of power you are losing to the wires and connectors.

Thank you for your reply. I'm going to go back to the original rpm pulley ratio to see if that works. Also I will look at the amp draw of the motor. If I understand you right, I should get 45 amps when the motor runs 1100 rpm, right?
 
The wires get a liitle warm but not that much. You think that this means there is some resistance in the wires. Does this really
 make such a difference, or in other words, can this take away that much power?
