[Electric Boats] Re: Horizon SunCat 46

 

We can see that some of the common elements of these proposed solar powerboats are catamaran hulls for low drag and an acceptance of low cruising speeds.

Because of these limitations, I think that a successful solar-converted displacement powerboat like a 40'+ trawler is unlikely. I think that a large planing solar powerboat is even less likely to meet a powerboat owner's expectations of speed and range.

I would think that hybrid systems would be more likely to meet power boat owner's needs, with renewable sources providing short range propulsion and marina maneuvering and fossil fuel power-plants for more power, faster speeds and extended range.
