RE: [Electric Boats] Re: New to this electric inboard motor stuff - anyone if Dallas/Fort Worth done a DYI?

Thanks for your post Fred.  I have a Mirage 29 with similar displacement, and am considering an electric conversion to replace the 18 hp Volvo Penta 2002 motor.  Can you let us know a bit more about your installation, especially your battery setup?

Thanks!

Hello,

We have a Tartan 27-2 which has about 8000 lbs displacement. I did our conversion about 6 years ago, and am happy with the results. The 10kw kit should work well, ours was the old 8.5kw kit, which is borderline for us. I made my own mount, but theirs should be fine. We have about 4 hours of range, and only ran out of juice once in all that time. Things like docking become much easier because of the better rpm control.Support from Thunderstruck has been excellent. Electric is not for everyone, but for our use, which involves minimal motoring, it works great!
