The thunderstruck can translator is a good start to figure out what can messages you need to send to your nmea display. The translator sends a message to the controller and it responds with the data, like rpm. If the can translator is connected to the can bus, you can then listen in and use the data you need. This is only a theory as I have not done this yet. I have heard that thunderstruck is working on a device that will send data to a nmea display.
