Getting ready to rig up my motor, batteries, controller in the garage.
Want to make sure I know what I am doing and have all the right parts
before crating it all up and shipping to the boat.
Looking for advice on wire gauge and connectors... planning to use an 8
x GC6 lead acid bank. My motor is an EY 20Kw (2 x 10Kw), 48v.
I expect to cruise at 80 - 100A, with possible burst to 310A, according
to EY's speed/power calculations.
So should ALL cables, i.e. between batteries (all in series) AND the
motor be sized for say 350A? Or is that overkill?
Looking at a standard gauge chart, it suggests "500" for 380A. This
stuff is $8/foot! Are there battery lugs available for this size cable?
I basically understand that thicker cable has less voltage loss,
therefore less heat, and more efficient. Is there any downside other
than cost to going as thick as possible?
