Re: [Electric Boats] Beneteau First 26 electric conversion

I just ordered a motor from Scott on this board. I have a 26 Chrysler C26 5000#. Going g 60 v with a AC Induction 3kw continuous. Easiest conversion not to mention half the price.

I'm strongly considering replacing my broken 10Hp diesel engine with an electric motor.

I am leaning towards the 5kW kit from thundestruck with a 2:1 gear reduction, but I'm very interested in alternatives (maybe in Europe) due to the exchange rates for the dollar. I reside in Norway.

The boat is a Beneteau First 26 built in 1984, with a displacement of 2000kg/4400pounds. I believe the propeller is 14 inch/10 pitch, 2 blade folding. If anyone has experience regarding regen on smallish boats like this I'd love to hear about it.

If anyone has a similar sized sailboat with an electric engine, I'd be very interested in what your experience is regarding the size of your battery bank, range and so on. I think I need to install the motor first and the see what room is left for batteries, but I assume it will be between 100-200Ah 48V.

And if anyone has installed the thunderstruck kit with the gear reduction I'd love to see some pictures from the installation and how you've solved the mounting.
