Re: [Electric Boats] PROPELLER REGENERATION UNDER SAIL

Regenerative power from your prop in a small sailboat is something very close to a myth. While theoretically possible the reality usually is that it's hard to get much usable energy. Experience has demonstrated that you really don't start getting much output until your boat is going pretty fast. So if your boat won't maintain something like 7+ mph through the water you're not going to get much more 50 Watts or so. I'm just ball parking here but the bottom line is most small sailboats just don't go fast enough to make this worth the effort.

Not sure what the prop rpm is. Motor rpm under power is about 1500 at 3.5 kts. I'd I remember right the gearing is 2.7 to 1.
It would probably be late May before I could look at this underway.

I was expecting those numbers, but from the HPEVs AC motor, no regeneration so far…. I do get a prop RPM at 150-200. If I switch on the system, the prop stalls to 30 rpm.
I should push the boat to 12knots… but still did not find out how to count the shaft RPM when steering in strong winds…!
Your system is not HPEVs, so the configuration may be different.
What is your prop rpm when regenerating?

PROPELLER REGENERATION UNDER SAIL
Could anyone share its experience about regeneration with propeller from HPEVs motors (Thunderstruck or others)?
I cannot get any charge
Thanks
