Years ago when I was researching repowering options, the Torqueedo in an outboard well was one of them. In addition to not enough power, the other negative (a concern made aware to me through conversation with a Torqueedo engineer) was the fact that the Torqueedo couldn't be left in the down position when not being used—thus causing the prop to spin. I have no idea why this would be a problem, as this is what enables my current Electric Yacht system to regenerate power. Anyway, as I said, this was many years ago, probably 2 years after the Torqueedo was first produced. Perhaps they have deemed this as a non-issue.
The biggest obstacle I ran into with mounting an adequately-sized outboard on the back of my transom was the inbalance it would create (including a mount that was appropriate to handle the torque of a 4-stroke), as well as the length of the outboard shaft. I have a reverse transom, which is problematic in both respects.
