Thanks Eric ! Will just have to wait for my backup battery bank for the
prices to drop. Hopefully the demand will create the an opportunity for
an entrepreneur to take the chance. I am sure he or she will be quite
successful. Just another good reason to keep your mouse pointed to this
informative site.

Don,
I agree that LiPo batteries have an excellent power to weight/volume
ratio and their lifetime is impressive, but the current prices are still
prohibitive.
The website you quoted prices their batteries at $3.50/AH at 3v. To get
48v, you need to multiply that by 16 (3 x 16 = 48), so 48v is $56/AH. So
from ilovebikes, a 48v 100AH battery would cost $5600. This price seems
typical for the plug and play resellers. I'm trying to see if I can find
a way to cut that price in half from available suppliers in the US. I'll
let you know if I'm successful.
Just to gauge the current market; if I could supply a 48v 100AH LiPo
battery pack for around $2600, would any of you actually buy them? I know
that this is about twice what AGM costs, but the weight should be about
35% and volume around 50% of lead acid.
Does anyone here think that this is a reasonable price point?
Fair winds,
Eric
