If a little more weight is not an issue then you also have a 3rd option. The Torqeedo Base 801 comes with the ext battery cable set for $1,199usd (no battery included). For approx $500usd more you can put 2 12v AGM 44hr batts and a dual bank charger in a battery box. Weight would be about 80 lbs. You would then have a minimum of 22ah capacity to 50% DOD, or 35ah down to 80% in a pinch. Considering the OEM travel battery is 10ah, this ext battery option gives you at least twice and possibly three times the range, at the expense of more weight and less portability. These figures are approximate, but you get the idea.
On some dinghies it would be a benefit to be able to put 80lbs up in the bow area to level out the boat. Total cost for this solution is about the same as buying the 'travel' model.
