Hi Kevin,
The larger the prop the more efficient at slow speeds it is BUT you need to have enough clearance fore, aft, top, bottom. When you are checking this be sure you have the shaft angle correct. (In the picture you posted with the prop & shaft clamped into approximate position it looks like the shaft angle is too horizontal.)
Bronze props are pretty easy ($50 - $75) to repitch a couple of inches either way and you could also probably get a prop shop to cut an inch off the diameter if need be.
