In general Bigger is better and shorter is better. Less voltage drop higher capacity, etc. If you use regular welding cable pay extreme attention to the sealing of all ends especially if the individual strands are not fully tinned. Water will wick up the wire if there is any openings and corrosion will soon cause issues.

Other options for wire and cable are Bestboatwire.com and/or GenuineDealz.com - 2 internet companies out of the same warehouse in Brunswick GA. I've bought through both and can figured out you need to check both sites as the prices vary. Both have always been cheaper than West Pro even with a good discount. I was about an 35 minutes drive from their warehouse so shipping was saved. This stuff is heavy. 

Don't forget that a fuse or breaker is needed near the power source.
