Not sure what you mean by 'as efficient'. My diesel at slow cruise speeds (not so true at higher speeds) comsumed more diesel per nm than my small petrol generator in battery assist mode (using zero amps from the battery) at the same speed. In other words the eMPG is better than the old diesel.
