It has been along time since I have been near electric propulsion (1990s), so anyone feel free to correct me. But, it seems the same is true now as then.
Brushless still beats brushed in efficiency and maint costs. AC beats DC in eff as well. Purchase costs go the other way around though when whole systems were involved. A good part of that cost was high voltage electronics which were a fair bit more costly back then over what was used for DC, not so sure that is the case now.
And, unless you can design a good system for it, the conversion of DC to AC does eat up some of the savings. How far you run wiring also matters too though. As I recall wiring AC (usually higher voltages/less amps for a given current) is thinner, easier to work with and has less loss than for DC.

Also, please be sure to think about safety precautions as well. 100kw is some pretty serious power and thus current. There are doubtless some design issues that need to be considered for maritime use - battery ventilation/temperature, corrosion, and potential for things getting wet come immediately to mind.
