I run a 15kg direct drive brushed DC and whilst fine on a small boat like mine with limited power requirement, and limited prop size due to aperture, not to mention funds - I'd suggest you consider brushless AC with a gearbox for light weight (compared to heaven DC motors) to ensure an efficient prop size/shaft speed. If minimising batteries then if running at 51.2 V nominal for LiFePO4 then 4 X 200 Ah X 12.8 V for each shaft with a generator should be enough for house loads and short term electric propulsion on electric only.
