Hi Mark,
Since the Okeanos Foundation appears to be giving away the information for building and operating the Vaka to at least the islanders, I've asked if the details are/will be available to anyone on-line or via other means. I've also asked whether the data and anecdotal experiences of the crews associated with their electric drive systems and components can be made available to help us expand the overall knowledge base world-wide. Here's another fascinating fact about the Vaka - they not only name the boats, they name each hull pontoon (port is female, starboard is male), as well as the steering oars (after a god, as I understand it - I know I've prayed to my tiller's abilities at times! :)
As for the super-duper, literally-warped-blade-drive, optimizable, pusher/regenerative prop, everyone wants money for everything needed to make it happen (the balsa wood version didn't last very long ): They don't seem to understand the lousy state of the economy (or lack thereof), so, I guess I'm just going to have to also eliminate the PB & J from the sandwiches for which I've already stopped buying bread in order to get the materials (it doesn't help that some required materials are in high demand by the aerospace/defense industries, not to mention super-yacht builders ): I'm really starting to get annoyed with the economic situation and you really don't want to see me get mad (I turn ugly colors, but, more shades of blue than green, mostly from holding my breath ;)
All the Best,
Jim
