Re: [Electric Boats] prop for kicker conversion

On most outboards, cutting the cavitation plate, means losing one of the 2 bolts, that attaches the foot/gearbox to the rest of the leg, reason I chose a bigger outboard.
My 2 cents

I am converting a 9.9 Yamaha high thrust kicker into an electric outboard using a 24 volt motor from a mobility scooter and the controls. I have the motor mounted using a portion of the crankshaft as a coupler after a bit of machining. However this kicker doesn't have a prop. I remember in earlier threads where people were using RC airplane props, for minnkota motors. The prop shaft is just over ½ inch in diameter where the splines are. There are 8 splines in total. From the pictures I've seen of the RC airplane props, it doesn't look like I could machine out the prop centre hole to match my prop shaft, and have much material left. I could machine down the prop shaft of the kicker to about 3/8 inch and then machine out the RC airplane prop to match. I do have a prop from a minnkota 36 lb thrust I could make fit , but if I am starting from scratch, I might as well go for a bigger dia. If I did alter the shaft of my kicker and machine out a RC airplane prop to match, does anyone have any ideas as to the dia. and pitch of a prop that I should select? Should I get a 3 blade? I have no problem cutting away the cavitation plate and since it's a long shaft I'm not limited regarding the dia. of the prop . It will be well below the water surface. For now it would be used on a 12 foot plastic (heavy duty) rowboat .
Thanks for any thoughts on this.
