Re: [Electric Boats] Re: Torqeedo stops production of the Travel 401 and 801 models.

I have a 801 Travel Torqeedo and for the most part I like it with a few exceptions it is difficult to turn and anything but moderate or low speed, the telephone type connection at the handle to controller corrodes and loses contact and except for only minor repairs, it's a send in to a dealer to repair....   I have a feeling as you do Neil, we're being pushed into a unit that costs more and limits us on the use of power supplies, except purchased from Dealer of Manufacture.   The one thing I will say about the Torqeedo is the 3 blade prop, who ever engineered that part, hats off.   When my 801 quit on me the last time I took the prop off and installed it on an old Minn-kota 50 lb thrust and was I surprised, pleasantly...

In most area's the Torqeedo is over engineered and other areas I think the bean counters won the prize..

That's my 2 cents, for what it's worth.      Dave K

I'm coming to the conclusion that Torqeedo is intending to drive us to the Cruise 2.0 or bigger if you want external battery capability. I'd happily pay $1500 for a 1003 Base, but I'm not going to pay $2k for a 1003 with a LiMa battery I don't need, or $2800 for a Cruise 2.0 with more power than I want/need.

I was surprised to hear Cap'n Todd say he has requested they make an external battery adapter for the 1003 - I had hoped this was already in the pipeline.

I think they've left a big gap in the market unfilled...

They are not practical as auxiliary motors because of the lack of battery capacity.  The 801 with its' battery adapter would allow you to hook up four Trojan T-105's with a capacity of 5400 watt-hours. This is ten times the capacity of the 1003's battery. I like the new models. I just wish they hadn't shot themselves in the foot because of the lack of an external battery hookup. Thanks. Steve S.
