Hmm, back up a bit. It is one thing to convert the outboard and
maintain (or improve) performance, it is quite another to convert the
*system*, the hull performance and range.

To answer your initial question, yes, something like a Warp 9" motor
could be used for a conversion, with a blower to keep it cool and a
decent controller (a Zilla Z1k, if you can find one, or one of the
newer brands that have come along).

However, let's look at what you are asking for. 125hp, so 60kW to
80kW should provide comparable performance (although 1kW is 1.25hp
you gain a bit of performance, so you won't need 100kW).

Being optimistic, lets' look at what it takes to deliver 60kW. 200
volts at 300 amps, or 150 volts at 400 amps. Lower voltage than this
and you can't push the amps into the motor.

Batteries: for the exercise, let's use 200V worth of thunder-sky 160
amp-hour lithium cells, call it 60 cells for simplicity (270V peak,
about 200V under load, 180V when 'flat'). 336kilogrammes or 739lbs of
batteries, will give you a duration of half an hour and will cost
over US$11,000 just for the cells. 260AH would give 52 minutes and
cost over US$18,000 just for the cells, you'll still need to add a
charger, battery management, controller, etc.

As always, it is the batteries that are the limiting part.

If you are hydroplane racing, short-course slalom or drag racing,
yes, battery/electric can provide a viable option, but what kind of
range or useage are you looking for, and the bottom line is what is the budget?
