Thanks for sharing that..
  Is the brake worked by that cable being attached to the throttle lever or is there some type of electric connection?
 If I remember correctly from looking at that system it uses a toggle switch to go from forward to reverse and a lever to a pot that would allow a cable brake..
 The one i am getting uses the controller for forward and reverse but there may be a way to use that with a servo to engage it as soon as the key is off and release on.

Hi Richard,

Regarding a shaft brake, you can see what I did on my Ericson 27 with a SolidNav Explorer motor in the photos section here. Look under "Lotus Flower". Brake is engaged by putting the throttle in the full off position and is released as soon as the throttle is moved forward.
