Re: [Electric Boats] Re: The missing link in "affordable" diesel electric

Hi Chris,

I'm on a similar path, but without a genset. I have just installed a
Torqeedo Cruise 4 on my trimaran and she's going back in the water
today. In the next few weeks I'll be doing some shakedown tests in
the river, but after that I hope to be cruising and we'll see how it
goes.

I'm using 16x 200 Ah LIFEPO cells and have 500 watts of solar power
to charge the house batteries, and with what's left over, to charge
these engine batteries. I'll be relying totally on the sun to
recharge, and we'll soon see if this is a pipedream or not.

I've done some preliminary tests with the Torqeedo and it pushes my
43 ft trimaran along at six and a half knots, at full throttle (4kw).
It lopes along sweetly at 1500watts and 4.5 knots - and at this rate
I have about 5 hours of motoring.

You can see more details at http://www.currentsunshine.com

Cheers

Chris
