> Congrats on your new project, I took a quick look at your blog w/pictures.
> My thoughts: Although your 54lb trolling motor will `move the boat forward', it will not do it with any efficiency, authority, or longevity. Since you already have it there is no harm in hooking it up for testing, but you will be underwhelmed.

Even Torqeedo's smallest motor (401) will be noticeably more powerful and more efficient in your application than the Motorguide. It is also about 3 times the price, but that's how it goes.

Thanks Capt. Todd!
The MotorGuide was a secondary outboard for my friend's Columbia 28' sailboat and was definitely underpowered, but moved the boat. I was aboard as we motored around the 3 times checking it out. So I know how much power 54 lbs of thrust is and hope I'll be satisfied with it on my much lighter, smaller and less windaged boat. If not then I'll upgrade later when I can. Thank you so much Todd! Eventually my boat will be a 'sailor' and should need a motor for just getting in and out of the slip.
