Why a DIY controller? Why climb mount everest? Why build your own boat? Why stick a 350 v8 in a 1963 Chevy nova? Some folks just like to do stuff. Even when there are easy off the shelf solutions. I will probably tinker with a DIY controller myself at some point. Like next year maybe. A DIY controller could be a cheap backup, too.
