NiMH is really good for high power applications expecially for HEV as you know. However, it's really expensive compared with current low end LiFePO4 battery (large cell, low discharge rate). NiMH is made from expensive metals and rare earth materials so it's cost will rise together with the market needs, but lithium ion battery does not have such a problem.
