Re: [Electric Boats] Re: Torqeedo stops production of the Travel 401 and 801 models.

I bought the Torqeedo 1003s and the matching solar panel at the boat show. Being easy to break down into easily manageable pieces when loading into the dingy was a big plus. The space in the dingy "without a fuel tank" I love saying that is worth the extra cost.

I took it out for a spin last weekend and was totally impressed. With my whole marine set up now being electric, mothership and tender and shore transport (electric scooter)getting used to moving a little slower and extending the batteries is the trick. I was never a speed freak, going slow is not really that difficult.

The advantages so far easily make electric the best decision I made as skipper so far.

Today I will collect the wind generator to help keep me further off the grid! The hookah compressor motor is now the only ICE on board?

Steve,
I was going to pass a link because SolidNav had an outboard shown on their site, but the site is gone. Anyone know what happened?

I hope they aren't gone. After a lot of comparison shopping when I selected their motor, it really appeared to be the best for the money. The comparable system from Mastervolt is about twice the price.

The new models 503 and 1003 have been reduced to dinghy motors because they cannot be connected to external batteries and the 1003 cannot use the high thrust prop that was on the 801 because of its' higher RPMs. At almost $2000 the 503 and 1003 are just too expensive if their only use is as a dinghy motor. Thanks. Steve S.
