Bonjour Pierre,
When Elco quoted me on their 36 volts electric motor it was labelled as a 3HP. It is now the EP-600 (6HP). You will find the specs of all Elco offerings at the following web address : http://www.elcomotoryachts.com/elco-motor-performance-guide.shtml
I went to Elco on the recommandation of Ken Basset of Onion River Boatworks located in North Hero, Vermont. Ken had stop at my booth in the summer of 2010 and invited me to visit his shop. He was completing the construction of an 21 feet electric launch at that time. Ken had chosen Elco mainly because they were offering a complete integrated electric solution, you drop it in the boat you connect the motor to the shaft and you lauch the boat. (Elco represents that the installation is an 8 hours job).
He was satisfied with the performance of the motor.
I contacted Elco, the exchanges were friendly and they provided me with all the information I needed for the architect of the Bras d'Or 19 to incorporated this motor in our offer.
We still have to build the first Bras d'Or 19 which should start this summer. However the first one will probably go with a Torqeedo 2.0 in a well, this is less expensive electric solution very easy to implement. So I cannot comment on Elco after sale service.
The list price for the Elco is 5,985$US. As a boat builder I do get a discount on that price. The battery bank (AGM) would cost approximately 2,500$Ca.
The Torqeedo 2.0R with the remote control is 3,200$CA.
Hope these comments helpfull to your project.
Please feel free to call me, my phone numbers are on the web site.
Regards,
Louis Ducharme

Bonjour Louis,

You catch my attention right there.
I went on your web site and found the intriguing Bras d'Or 19

==================================================
The hull and the interior have been optimised, from the beginning, to accommodate the battery banks (up to 8 batteries) required to implement electric propulsion, either inboard (a 3HP integrated package from ELCO Motor Yachts) or outboard (Torqeedo 2.0R).
launching price of 27,500$CA (sail included).
==================================================
How much the electric inboard from ELCO is adding to the cost?
Is it the ELCO model EP-300?

Input power: 36 VDC, max current 80 amps
Speed Range RPM: 0-2,100 RPM, FWD & REV, at full torque.
Motor: Totally enclosed fan cooled 3-phase AC motor.
Why did you choose this brand?
How do you found the ELCO service?
How does your model compares to the ELCO EP-1000 (10 HP) found in the Hunter 27e?
Rated power: 10 shaft HP, continuous.
Input power: 72 VDC, max current 138 amps.
Speed range RPM: 0-2,100 RPM, FWD & REV, at full torque.
Motor: Totally enclosed fan cooled 3-phase AC motor.
Merci!
