Subject: Re: File - Welcome
| I've been using two 35lbthrust minkota trolling motors to power my 8' x 16' pontoon boat. The meager power is adequate unless I have freinds along. I was laying in bed and thought why couldn't I hook up a couple of golfcart motors and use timing belts/gears to transfer power to submerged propellers? The funny thing is I thought I was onto something until I started to do my research and came across your website. I was thinking two 2.7hp 36vdc prestolite golfcart motors, I'll have to keep my eyes out for controls from a used golf cart. I plan on mounting them under backseat with holes in floor to allow for belt drive. Then i thought "splash shield" to protect motors which evolved into a water proof drive belt area. Then there's tension adjustment...... You can see how this is snowballing LOL I was a mechanic and milwright for 30yrs so I have the aptitude, but as you can imagine I'm getting overwhelmed. I would appreciate any and all recommendations on this project such as motor brand/hp/discounts etc and then there's batteries which are pricey I'm open to all suggestions and I hope to hear from the pontoon owners especially. Like everyone else I'm trying to keep costs at a minimum. What got me thinking like this was my neighbor has a beautiful pontoon with a MinKota "e" drive. I thought I'd just go get one of those. When i inquired about the price I was told $1900.00 plus batteries !!!! Enough said
