[Electric Boats] Re: celling fan motor...???

Interesting idea. A ceiling fan is designed to run on household current, 115VAC, so you're going to need a really long extension cord. :)

Seriously, the power output is really low compared to the motors that people are installing in boats. I'd be surprised if a ceiling fan pulls more than 4A in a household circuit which works out to less than 500 watts or 2/3 hp. Not really an effective replacement for a 5hp outboard. A 24' sailboat can probably get by with a 2kW system and still be able to deal with some currents and weather.

After having the boat shipped to Sweden ( were I now reside ) from Vancouver B.C. someone decided they needed that 5hp Merc outboard more than I.... so now i'm considering going electric rather than mess around with gas, oil and all that jazz. Besides, the outboard deal is ugly.
