[Electric Boats] daysailer electric auxilliary retrofit

I have been following this blog for a while and now have the opportunity to actively join in! Recently purchased a Hartley TS18 (displacement up to 2000#)and will be undertaking a moderate restoration/completion project. As originally designed, mechanical propulsion was provided by either an outboard (4-6hp) or an inboard (awaiting hp specs). I hope to install an electric motor with batteries supported by solar panel(s) sufficient to cruise the inland waters of Puget Sound. I will also install a charger when the boat is ashore.

As many of you know, we deal with significant tides and currents throughout our cruising grounds. Cognizant that the electric motor is intended to be a true auxilliary, I still need to count on enough juice to "get home" when the winds fail or currents are in direct opposition. I would hope to be able to accomplish hull speed of approximately 4+ kph in calm waters.

With all that being written, please reply with helpful links for materials and guides to help get me going. And if you have undertaken something similar I would love to hear from you!

Thanks,
WZ in WA
