[Electric Boats] celling fan motor...???

Hi all,
I'm a new member and a proud owner of a SanJuan 24. After having the boat shipped to Sweden ( were I now reside ) from Vancouver B.C. someone decided they needed that 5hp Merc outboard more than I.... so now i'm considering going electric rather than mess around with gas, oil and all that jazz. Besides, the outboard deal is ugly.
I was considering at one point going just with a powerful trolling motor but I like the inboard idea better. No problems with tides and currents here, just need to use it for take-off and landing...
Has anyone ever considered using a POWERFUL ceeling engine fan motor ? It has forward and reverse + various speeds. If one changes the ( pull string ) switch, why not ?
Any thoughts on this dear E-boaters ?
All the best
Roand
