Re: [Electric Boats] Re: EPA commuication regarding 15% Ethanol use

Completely agree, individual energy use has to come down, plus we need to promote lowering the world population, or nature will lower it for us... The earth just can't handle these numbers forever.

On a separate note.
We bought a plug in electric Volvo, and I have to say, all my cars in the future will be electric. It is quiet, no exhaust and smooth. The only regret with the Volvo is that I wish it went further on electric or was all electric.
It does 20 miles on a full charge, 11Kw/hour battery pack, which covers us 90% of the time. But for the long trips, the ICE kicks on, but we still average around 35+ mpg on ICE. And we buy 100% of our electricity from solar, which is the same price as fossil fuel electricity for us.

When in electric mode, you definitely drive more conservatively. It becomes a challenge to regen going down hills, and stopping at a light. Once people try electric cars, they will not go back, in my opinion.
The extra cost of the plug in electric was about $10k, but there is a $5k federal tax rebate, so $5k out of pocket. But that also included some options/features/upgrades. So it will pay off in saved gas at around 50,000 miles. But if the cost of gas goes up, then it will pay off faster.

We are building a new home, and plan to go carbon neutral or positive. 10kw of panels, and a Tesla power wall or 2. Geothermal heat, super insulated. So hopefully will fuel our house electric needs, heating needs and our electricity to power our cars.
It is expensive right now, but in the long run, it will pay off. Plus with the federal rebate, it gives back 30% of the cost, which makes it almost a wash, exciting times.

Many car companies are coming out with electric cars in the next 2-3 years. The price will drop, battery tech will get better, and fossil fuel cars will lose market share rapidly.
