Well, I know that the Baldor gearboxes can handle axial loads because mine has been in use for 4 years now and many other eboaters are using them with no failures reported that I am aware of. Of course you can always mount a thrust bearing external to the motor and reduction gear, and use a splined shaft slip coupling between the motor and gearbox, and the prop shaft. This would also give you the option of woing away with the reduction gear altogether, and running direct drive if the prop is small enough to not overload the motor. Or you are running lower voltage.
