Peter,
10kw would be better.
Make what you will from the two GPX tracks I've attached. Here is a video from a portion of the Grief Point Track to Secret Cove track on battery alone riding the Malaspina for everything we can get out of her without getting to greedy.

We cover 49.38 km or more that day as we didn't start the track until we dropped our first passenger off after demonstrating the cat hard that morning to him slicing through oncoming tide and into 15 to 20 NW winds for a hour or so burning probably 100 amps.
So we did 49.38 km at an average speed of 8.03 km/h and it took us 6 hours as we backed off as we neared secret cove 5km out we just relax lower prop and coast in to enjoy the scenery and make observations.
Alternatively you can examine the Doctor Bay to Redonda Bay track as we circumnavigation West Redonda Island. In this case we motor all day on solar alone and fish all day and enjoy the scenery reaching speeds of 3-5km/h and covering our leg easily that day 25 km. Did I say free?
It is easy to use the generator as a crutch. Often times it is not needed but used anyhow.
